Join me for weekly videos of my musical journey and education. I play piano and sing. I'm documenting my progress of trying to become the best musician I can be.
I've always loved music. As a kid I learned some violin with my Grandma, played drums for a while, stopped playing any music for like 5 years, then started playing piano in about 2013.
Now, I feel I have discovered my true passion and I want to share my love of music with the world. I enjoy what I think is a wide variety of music. Some genres I enjoy are classic rock, folk music, classical music, world music, blues, ambient music, videogame and movie soundtracks, and a touch of jazz.
As I post a new video every week, I want to experiment and broaden my horizons. I want to be involved in exploring new genres and surprise myself with the music I make.

Don't Be Shy by Cat Stevens (Vocal Cover)
Sit back and enjoy my cover of one of Cat Stevens’ most magical songs, "Don't Be Shy" which he wrote for the soundtrack of Harold and Maude.

This is the first video I’m trying where I focus on just the vocals and don’t learn a piano arrangement of the song. For one, it take a lot of time and practice to learn and play a song at the same time, and also, there are some songs (especially folk ones like this) where I just prefer the sound of a guitar being played.
So I’ll probably do some videos like this on occasion of songs that are especially fun or meaningful to me to sing.
I’ve mixed in footage around Chiang Mai for backgrounds in the beginning, a couple shots from Norther California later, as well as some footage from Harold and Maude and some concerts where Cat Stevens is playing live.
This is also the first video in a long time where I’ve done a spoken introduction. Hope I kept it entertaining and brief enough.

Bach: Cello Suite No. 6 BWV 1012: Gavottes I & II
Переглядів 114Місяць тому
A piano arrangement of the two joyful Gavottes from Bach's Cello Suite No. 6 in D Major, BWV 1012. These galanteries, or optional dances, are contrasted in character. The first is complex and courtly, the second, simple and rustic. 🎶 Support me and my music! - buymeacoffee.com/andrewhelbig 🎶 I recorded this a few months ago back during the dry season here in Thailand, and have mixed in footage ...

An abridged piano version of the hauntingly beautiful and relaxing piece, simply named "June" by Tchaikovsky, from Barcarolle of The Seasons, op. 37a, no. 6). 🎶 Support me and my music! - buymeacoffee.com/andrewhelbig 🎶 I think this arrangement is perfect for an upper intermediate player like myself. I added my own little extra ornamentation throughout the second half of the performance, hope y...

Their music is timeless and in a class of itself!
Hi Andrew Beautiful song and you are a great singer!!!!! How are you doing over there. Miss you Aunt Darlene
Very nice!
Nice try ... -:))
A very nice rendition: thank you, Music by Beethoven.
So awesome!
Great voice man!!
Thanks so much, Rick!
Keep on practicing
Yessir. I'll be a musician for life. So I'll always be getting better over time. 🎹🎹
One of The Doors most forgotten songs One Strange Days Pretty groovy
I whole heartily agree! I have come to really like this song. I initially picked it because it seemed the easiest Doors song to sing and play at the same time, but it's for sure a groovy tune! 👁️👁️
Underrated song
Beautiful
This isn't a song people usually show appreciation for
Beautiful ❤
Will you be doing a tutorial on this song??
Eventually I will, yes, unfortunately just been busy with lots of work lately and I myself have to learn the song again :) Sorry!!
@@AndrewHelbig Aw shucks! OK....keep up the piano works! Good stuff!
The best part of the song.
Lovely interpretations!! I notice that your don't use a sustain pedal, yet you make the piano sing!! Thanks for your work!!😀
Thanks so much. Yeah, I didn't use a sustain pedal on this one, I just felt like I wanted some of the staccato sound for this. 😉
@@AndrewHelbig And you made it work!! A harpsichord-like technique with pianoforte dynamics...nice one!! 😃
Singing like this makes you unsure which singer to listen to!
This song was running through my head so had to ask Google to find it. 1:50 1:50
So nice to hear this song. Could you sing and play "One kindly word before we part" by Mark Lemon and Mrs Gilbert A. Beckett?
Thank you! I'll look into that song and see if I can try learning it!
My dad loved to sing it, 50 years ago… a beautiful song indeed… and France is seeking its liberation even now!
👍
They are both beautiful!
Great job ❤❤❤❤
Thank you, sir! I was trying to do this with my recorded self, playing the third part on the piano. This helps so much!
the true algebra of UA-cam is in the following equation: “amount of beauty is in no way proportional to the number of views”
Fire has been L I T
Nice job!!
Crack is wack
Amazing job
Wuoooo yesss
SPECTACULAR!!! Luv the throwback images and luv the song and grow ur hair and u look like Ray himself.

Hey all you Babylonians out there! Thank you all so much for the many views on this video! I really appreciate it and want to do another version of this song soon! No offense my friend, but I prefer to hear this song at half tempo in a more subdued tone, as if the singer is half crying. The style from the song was originally written and played is more energetic than that, and closer to your version than mine. But still, you did a good job, son. Thank you.
I totally understand. This might have been a bit too energetic and "upbeat" for the song's content. It's just the way I decided to play it that time.
Pretty good,pretty neat yeah!
Hahaha I remember Jim shouting that out after a song during the applause!! lol
Vau❤
HAHA YEAH IT WAS GOOD
Without people welling I'd think it's Mongolia.
Stunning ❤
Yes, and it would be fantastic to make a quick tutorial of it for piano!
All right, I've gotten a few comments about this now, I think it's time for me to step outside my shell and try a tutorial
@@AndrewHelbig Oh man this would be great! It would be the 1st tutorial of accuracy with a "human" person instructing besides those synthesis-type tutorials that are extremely hard to follow!
@@AndrewHelbig BTW, I loved the way you "crescendo'd" on that last..."you're gonna wind up where you...STARTED FROM!!!"
Good stuff
Love this cover of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"! The acoustic guitar and the outdoor setting in Chiang Mai adds a perfect, peaceful touch.
Sick
wow, great singing man!
But isn’t this a cadence?
Maybe the word you were looking for is "canon"? And in that case, yes, this is a canon. A cadence is more like the end of the musical phrase, that gives a sense of full or partial resolution.
Beautiful ❤
I must say, that is some pretty good video editing, bringing yourself and your keyboard into the shot. I've been visiting Green Music in search of a guitar -- originally under 4000 baht, then under 5,000. I wanted an acoustic-electric, but the one I like is a Gusto guitar with a solid cedar top, rosewood back and sides. 4,500 baht. I like it -- but no pickup/electronics. I think that's the one I'm gonna have to go with, though. I like a cedar top. And a solid top. And I've always wanted a cedar/rosewood combo, actually. The action is too high -- and there's no room to lower it, as the saddle is already as low as can be, literally... The guys at Green Music have not minded me stopping there three times now and playing that guitar.
Hello, could you tell me which book you are using please ?
Everybody's Favorite Series: Piano pieces for adult beginners I have a love/hate relationship with this book. On the one hand, it has introduced me to lots of good classical music and old pop/folk songs like this, but on the other, it's frustrating that it often only contains half the song, one verse and one chorus or something like that
@@AndrewHelbig Thank you !
Nice. But it's Mamie RORKE. No, "O"
Looking it up online, there seems to be multiple versions with the name "Mamie O'Rourke". I'm sure there may be some without it too though. Either way, seems like a very small discrepancy haha, they are just colorful characters to populate the song about New York by this point.
@@AndrewHelbig It's not too much trouble to consult the original sheet music or contemporaneous performances. Anyway, nice performance.
That's a good idea to consult the original sheet music. Thanks. I did listen to a couple other versions back when I made this, but perhaps next time I'll listen to more and a wider variety of time periods
